Disclaimer:
  While these tips work best when creating a character who is U.S. Navy, you can use many of the points as a place to start when fleshing out characters from any of the other military branches.  Keep in mind that terms vary greatly from branch to branch.  I recommend that you ALWAYS find a person of the same branch and also the specific "warfare specialty" before finalizing your information & lingo. For example, something as basic as a military installation would be called a Naval "base" in the Navy, but an Army "post" in the Army.
